New Borehole at Akodokodoi in Kapelebyong

Teso Development Trust / Uncategorized  / New Borehole at Akodokodoi in Kapelebyong

A new borehole has been established through TDT partner PAG North Teso in the far north of Teso, at Akodokodoi in the Kapelebyong District.

The photographs show the heavy drilling equipment that needed to be sent to the site, miles away from any proper roads.

The water table in the area is much deeper than can be reached by digging so the new fresh water source will be a boon to local people who either have to draw water from dirty sources such as marshes or open streams shared with wildlife and livestock, or walk many miles to gather water.

The new borehole cost around £7,000 to establish and has been quickly pressed into use, serving around 300 households, so well over 1000 people.

The borehole is a key investment in the community, giving them better health through the eradication of water borne diseases and crucially more time to send their children to school and for adults to improve their farms and even start small business ventures.

TDT is also working with PAG North Teso on training initiatives that allows the local community to set up effective savings and loans arrangements and to more effectively farm their land. These initiatives will allow this very poor area of Teso to improve household livelihoods and general quality of life.
