Water Projects – South Teso

A natural spring protection costs around £1500 and due to the high water table in Kumi District usually it is only necessary to protect a natural spring in order to provide safe water for the community. In 2024 four spring protections were completed providing water for 1920 people. Following the provision of water communities frequently report reduced levels of water borne disease and fewer incidents of domestic violence and dischord in households as the reduced time and effort needed to collect water allows time and energy for other tasks.  Some communities have invested the extra time in growing vegetable gardens, income generating activities such as brick making or bee keeping.
