Mothers Union Literacy and Self Help

Soroti Mother’s Union, which is part of the Diocese of Soroti, has run a project setting up Women’s Adult Literacy Groups across the Diocese. The group come together as a Savings Group and initially start the learning based around what is needed to accurately record the various individual savings amounts and loans given. Overall the groups have made a big difference to the women’s confidence as even being able to sign their name on an attendance sheet makes them feel more visible as a person. The groups are also able to support each other in other ways, pastorally and practically and have learnt other skills together such as how to make re-useable sanitary towels.
