Mothers Union – Pads Project

Teso Development Trust / Mothers Union – Pads Project

Mothers Union – Pads Project

TDT gives regular funding for this ongoing project across schools Soroti District. Female members of staff also take part in the trainings as well as the female students aged 10-18. Around 50% of the girls in the classes have said that they miss 2-5 days a month of school because of menstrual hygiene issues. Disposable pads are expensive and as well as missing school on certain days of their period, due to a lack of suitable hygiene products (sometimes girls and women will use old cloths or newspaper as an alternative) girls will sometimes also miss school to go out and work to earn the money to buy pads. In general knowledge around the subject is low and going forward the aim will be to train mothers, all teachers and boys on the subject as well.
